In my English class, we are reading "The Things They Carried" and as a project, we have to do journal entries, as if we were in the war. He said that we also get extra credit if we did a really good job. So I don't know where to find really detailed info on the war in Vietnam, and also, how do you make a note book look like it's been in the army? HELP?

the Vietnam War occurred in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from 1959 to April 30, 1975. the war was fought between the communist North Vietnam, supported by its communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the United States and other member nations of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO).

the Vietcong, the lightly armed South Vietnamese communist insurgency, largely fought a guerrilla war against anti-communist forces in the region. the North Vietnamese Army engaged in a more conventional war, at times committing large-sized units into battle. U.S. and South Vietnamese forces relied on air superiority and overwhelming firepower to conduct search-and-destroy operations, involving ground forces, artillery and air strikes.

the United States entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam as part of their wider strategy of containment. military advisors arrived beginning in 1950. U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s and combat units were deployed beginning in 1965. involvement peaked in 1968 at the time of the Tet Offensive. despite a peace treaty signed by all parties in January 1973, fighting continued. in April 1975, North Vietnam captured Saigon. North and South Vietnam were reunified the following year.

the war exacted a huge human cost in terms of fatalities, including 3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides, 1.5 to 2 million Laotians and Cambodians, and 58,159 U.S. soldiers.

Vietnam was 2 words back then; Viet Nam.

Soldiers referred to it as "Nam" or "being in country".

Home/the US was "the real world"

Hooch referred to the soldiers living quarters, a tent or the native peoples huts.

My friend called Nam, the "other Hell".

A list of good movies to watch and learn from.

Missing in Action I, II and III staring Chuch Norris; his older brother died in Viet Nam.

The Hanoi Hilton

The Deer Hunter

The Green Beret, starring John Wayne

Uncommon Valor and Bat 21, starring Gene Hackman

Platoon, with Charlie Sheen

Hamburger Hill

In Country

Apocalypse Now

Viet Nam; The Ten Thousand Day War, a documentary by Ken Burns

hey im reading that now. lol. but not for schoo, for myself. Umm well u can tear the pages a lil, smudge a bit of dirt on it, and write disorderly like chaotic because on vietnam the soldiers were confused. they shot at vietcongs and sometimes the good vietnamese, because they were confused. Make it like reality and dream like, basically confusion...

Also do this

and i saw this guy and i was so scared i didnt know what to do i pciked up my gun but then i put it down i was confused do i kill him or not.--> what i did there is not used an forms of period or commas, its syntax, by not putting periods or commas, it makes it realistic because it shows that u were in a rush, you were confused. Its like one long sentence, as if it never ends. Also cross out many words, it proves confusion. like how mny were in vietna,m.
