1. The Stock market Crash happened because people were trying to sell stocks when nobody wanted to buy it.

2. For the average American, life was pretty hard... prices for consumer goods sky-rocketed through the roof and many people were laid off from work and became unemployed.

3. FDR helped with the recovery efforts by creating the "New Deal." It was created to provide relief for the unemployed, recover the economy, and reform the economic system. Although unemployment rates were high, many of Roosevelt's programs, such as the WPA and CCC, were designed to help families trapped in unemployment.

What were the causes leading up to the stock market crash?

People withdrawing their money from the stocks all at once. It caused the whole system to collapse - people ran to the banks to get their money and that started the domino effect.

What was life like during this time period for the average American?

Horrible. Hardly any if any income, families split but couldn't even pay for divorces, farmers destroyed the foods people needed in an attempt to raise the values of their stock to make money. It was rough.

1. "Black Tuesday" refers to the day the Stock Market crashed.

2. As told by my grandparents a few years ago, life was difficult. People lost jobs; the money wasn't there. Food and other natural resources became scarce and expensive. It was a very difficult time because there wasn't a lot of gainful employment because there was no way to provide just compensation to workers.

3. The New Deal programs.
