Why exactly was michael pitt's (jimmy darmody) killed off boardwalk empire?

It was the arrogance of the writer. I read an interview he gave this week. Just search "Jimmy from Boardwalk Empire dead" and you can read it. I loved Jimmy's character. They whacked him way too early. He carried the show only second to Nucky. I personally watched the show in this order for Jimmy, Nucky, Capone and the masked veteran. Killing him off has sadly made next season not as important to me. I hope that it turns out to be a dream or something, but from what I gathered from the interview, Jimmy's gone for good. I predict this will turn out to be a huge mistake. Ratings are gonna hit the gutter with no Jimmy next season. Atleast in Saprano's he was smart enough to not whack Paulie.

I hadn't heard any rumours about Michael Pitt being hard to work with. I think this was just something that was written into the script, and nothing more.



Michael Pitt and Buschemi have worked together before, so I can't imagine he would choose to work with him again if Pitt was difficult to work with.



Well, Michal Pitt was the reason I started watching this show, I love him and I love his intensity. I don't know if I will be watching anymore. We know more about him and his life than we do about Nucky's... In my opinion, Jimmy was more of a main character than anyone else.



Lets hope it was a dream, but I can't imagine it was - If it were a dream I don't think Nucky would have had a conversation about how Jimmy re-enlisted the next morning, with Margaret.

the worse part is, nucky believes eli when he said that it was jimmy that wanted him killed when in fact we all know that it was eli and the others (al, lucky, and myer) that pushed jimmy into doing it........i dont know if i can continue watching this show. killing him off was bullshit. he was by far my favorite character.....oh well

I have no idea but what I do know is I sure as hell will never be watching this show again. Jimmy made this show. And to think I've been defending Nuck all season. F nuck.. F the directors.. F em all besides Jimmy, richard, al, lucky, AR, meyer.

There has got to be a catch! It can't be so, it's an elaborate hoax, especially with Lucky pulling the trigger with so many potential witnesses/traitors looking on ie Horvitz and his brother....It just cant be so, I'm in denial until next season...It's a bad dream!

Oh God!! I'm hoping it's a dream as well. I hope they bring him back! That's the reason I watched the show. Can't stand Nucky now and I was defending him all along...but to kill Jimmy... really? I'm thinking it's a dream..but on who's part I'm not sure. I don't know where the show would go from here. I think they are killing off too many great characters..I also like Nucky's dad! They should kill of his slut of a mother...lol.

I can't believe it myself, I have to admit I kinda saw it coming but was surprised and shocked that they would do such a thing I mean I despise nucky now, I mean did their dynamic mean nothing in the end I know they tryed to make it seem like nucky was hesitant to pull the trigger but damn! I think they just put in twists for the sake of twists......I mean rationally I dont see how one would do business with someone who tried to have you killed but by that logic nucky should have killed his brother Eli........uhhh idk I think I might have lost interest........

I read somewhere that he has personal problems that are important. Anyone know if thats true? Some people also say he changed angencies and the writers planned to kill him off all along.



I don't think you would kill a lead character unless there are underlying reasons.

His wife, his father then Jimmy. The most complex and interesting character was written off the show, along with the most compelling relationship, between Jimmy and Nucky. I see a parallel from Godfather II when Michael had Fredo killed, and that led to . . . Godfather III. Good luck Boardwalk Empire writers, why not just make one more episode, where prohibition ends and Nucky dies alone in a nursing home?

Boardwalk empire would never be the same , he was my favorite character, i can not believe this ending, i was so surprise and despondent, is like when in a movie the leading character is killed at minute 15( never happens) , this was a very bad choice from the network,i think that i am not eager anymore to continue following boardwalk.

This is the real answer its going to be one of three either it was all a dream I'm hoping or Jimmy's MOM is going to run the show till the kid gets old enough, or we are going to fast forward 10 or 13 years when the kid is older and avenge his fathers and Mothers death killing Horowitz and then Nucky. The whole time jimmy's Mom will mentor the kid and show him the bootlegging ropes, Lets hope Jimmy's MOM doesn't have sex with her Grandson. Van Alden will be and adviser or bootlegger himself with or for Al Capone because the town he moved into is going to blow up in crime.

The executive producer and writer of the finale Terence Winter did an interview about the finale and where the show is going. He explains that the decision was one made by the writing team and was the most dramatic way to go with the show, and that it had nothing to do with Pitt needing to leave for any reason. I also read that he was fired because he was hard to work with on set sense he is so intense. However, it was a bad move. I can't really see myself watching a story based on a heartless killer like Nucky. The audience needs to be able to empathize with the main character's plight and since Nucky cold-heartly killed Jimmy. I can now only root for his demise, which is no fun considering he's the main character. BIG MISTAKE!

I HAVE LOVED THIS SHOW FROM THE FIRST EPISODE. THE VIOLENCE AND THE CRUELTY WERE VERY GRAPHIC BUT I CLOSED MY EYES, HELD MY EARS, AND PERSEVERED. THE SEASON FINALE LEFT ME SPEECHLESS! I WAS ALWAYS INTRIGUED WHENEVER JIMMY WAS ON THE SCREEN. HE UNFOLDED WELL AND HE HAD A COMPLEX & INTOXICATING STORY. HE WAS ALSO VERY BEAUTIFUL LOOKING.
