The Napoleonic Wars ranged right across Europe, from Lisbon on the west coast of Portugal to Moscow in Russia, and from Sweden in northern Europe as far south as southern Spain and Sicily.

They were the continuation of the Revolutionary Wars waged between France after the French Revolution and various coalitions of European powers;the majority of Napoleonic historians date the start of the Napoleonic Wars from November 1799,when Napoleon seized power in France through an army backed coup d'etat, assuming dictatorial powers as First Consul.Napoleon's aim was to conquer a Europe wide empire that would be ruled autocratically by a dynasty founded by himself. The objective of the coalitions opposing him was to prevent this aim being realized, and to remove Napoleon from political power in France permanently.

The Napoleonic Wars were a series of conflicts declared against Napoleon's French Empire by opposing coalitions that ran from 1803 to 1815. As a continuation of the wars sparked by the French Revolution of 1789, they revolutionized European armies and played out on an unprecedented scale, mainly due to the application of modern mass conscription. French power rose quickly as Napoleon's armies conquered much of Europe but collapsed rapidly after France's disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812. Napoleon's empire ultimately suffered complete military defeat resulting in the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in France. The wars resulted in the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire and sowed the seeds of nascent nationalism in Germany and Italy that would lead to the two nations' consolidation later in the century. Meanwhile, the Spanish Empire began to unravel as French occupation of Spain weakened Spain's hold over its colonies, providing an opening for nationalist revolutions in Spanish America. As a direct result of the Napoleonic wars, the British Empire became the foremost world power for the next century,[1] thus beginning Pax Britannica.

No consensus exists as to when the French Revolutionary Wars ended and the Napoleonic Wars began. An early candidate is 9 November 1799, when Bonaparte seized power in France with the coup of 18 Brumaire. 18 May 1803 is probably the most commonly used date, as this was when a renewed declaration of war between Britain and France (resulting from the collapse of the Treaty of Amiens), ended the only period of general peace in Europe between 1792 and 1814. The latest proposed date is 2 December 1804, when Napoleon crowned himself Emperor.

The Napoleonic Wars ended following Napoleon's final defeat at Waterloo on 18 June 1815 and the Second Treaty of Paris.

the napoleonic war could technically be classed World War One because it encompassed America, Europe, Asia and Africa and it started as a result of the French revolution.

Mostly, it was situated around the southern reaches of the Gobi desert, but sporadic fighting was reported as far away as Tibet and Borneo. How the war started is, of course, a matter of conjecture amongst historians but there seems to be a consensus that it began with a fistfight between Napoleon and Genghis Khan's wife in a hotel room in Tokyo in July 1781.

Napoleon crowned himself emperor of France in 1803 and attacked all of the nations he signed alliances with in1800. Napoleon was satisfied when he was at war, France paid dearly for that megalomania. It took until 1815 to finally stop his rampages into any country he chose.

There was only one.

It was in Australia.

It started because the Australians stole Napoleon's hat.
