Wounded Knee is a Huge part of Native American history.

You should feel honored to be able to educate your classmates on this topic. Everyone should know about this history.

So there are two main battles at wounded knee.

The first occurred way back in the 1800s. It was a Massacre, a slaughter. What happened in summary: Native people had a new sacred dance brought to them by the profit Wovoka. It was called the "Ghost Dance". By doing this dance Natives hopped to bring back their ancestors, at least in spirit. It was not harmful to the colonizers. But they outlawed the dance because it scared them. At this time Natives did not have religious freedom, that was taken from them by the colonizers/government. Well Natives decided to continue the dance anyway. The soldiers got pissed and scared. They went after Native leaders. Killed one very famous Native leader, Sitting Bull. After that another Native leader tried to bring his people to a safe place. Unfortunately the soldiers came and massacred them. Men, Women, and Children.

The Massacre happened in 1890. The death count between 150-300 (likely on the higher side) for Natives only. Not even half that was deaths of soldier. One count says only 25 soldier deaths.

The second battle at wounded knee, Siege at Wounded Knee, happened during the American Indian Movement. Called AIM. The American Indian Movement was kinda like the Malcom X movement. It was a civil rights movement, not exactly passivist. It was in the 60s-70s mainly. At one point during the movement AIMsters decided to take over wounded knee. Basically to hold up fort there until they could get the government to listen to some of their demands. The government got scared and arrested many Natives for no reason. The Siege was in 1973.

Even today if you visit Wounded Knee (on Lakota land) you will feel the energy of these massacres. It is very sad.

By the way I'm sorry your teach is such a jerk.

Hope this helps. Good Luck on your presentation!

The indigenous peoples of the Americas are the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the Americas, their descendants, and many ethnic groups who identify with those peoples. They are often also referred to as Native Americans, First Nations and by Christopher Columbus' historical mistake "Indians", modernly disambiguated as "American Indians", "Amerindians" or "Amerinds".

According to the still debated New World migration model, a migration of humans from Eurasia to the Americas took place via Beringia, a land bridge which formerly connected the two continents across what is now the Bering Strait. The minimum time depth by which this migration had taken place is confirmed at c. 12,000 years ago, with the upper bound (or earliest period) remaining a matter of some unresolved contention. These early Paleoamericans soon spread throughout the Americas, diversifying into many hundreds of culturally distinct nations and tribes. According to the oral histories of many of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, they have been living there since their genesis, described by a wide range of traditional creation accounts.

Application of the term "Indian" originated with Christopher Columbus, who thought that he had arrived in the East Indies, while seeking India. This has served to imagine a kind of racial or cultural unity for the aboriginal peoples of the Americas. Once created, the unified "Indian" was codified in law, religion, and politics. The unitary idea of "Indians" was not originally shared by indigenous peoples, but many now embrace the identity.

While some indigenous peoples of the Americas were historically hunter-gatherers, many practiced aquaculture and agriculture. The impact of their agricultural endowment to the world is a testament to their time and work in reshaping, taming, and cultivating the flora indigenous to the Americas. Some societies depended heavily on agriculture while others practiced a mix of farming, hunting, and gathering. In some regions the indigenous peoples created monumental architecture, large-scale organized cities, chiefdoms, states, and massive empires.

Seven years later... right it fairly is a valid answer: Blacks ought to get carry of reparations. they ought to because of the fact they have been interior the Americas earlier the Mongoloid hybrids who everybody calls Indians. My history is Afro-Portugese-Asiatic. i'm from Brazil. additionally we ought to ask why does Is ra el get carry of reparations from us of a and different international locations that did no longer something to them sixty seven years in the past in Europe. A 6 year alleged era of issues as against hundreds of years of horrors. It merely does not seem correct. Jews get reparations because of the fact they're white. jap have been given slightly sum of hush funds because of the fact they too are assimilated. Mongoloids or Indians are surprisingly plenty white so as hence each and every team yet those called Blacks get reparations. i assume funds basically come whilst a holocaust is over after a revolution. Holocaust continues to be ongoing for the Blacks.
