Since i began my research bout 8 mnths ago, ive come to believe, i've been lied to about the number of deaths in Hilter's labor camps. Other Govt's hav murdered far mor.

1) May 1945: The Soviet Jewish anti-Fascist Committee announced that the number gassed at Auschwitz was 4,00,000;

(2) September 1998: Director of Holocaust studies, Yeduha Bauer of Yad Vashem, Holocaust Center at Jerusalem, set the number of deaths at Auschwitz at 1,600,000;

(3) 1989: Professor Raul Hilberg, Professor of Holocaust Studies -Tel Aviv, Israel - lists the Auschwitz total at 1,250,000;

(4) July, 1990: Polish Historians replace the Auschwitz plaque with a new one stating that those who died of all causes & of all nationalities is 1.5 mil.

The figure of 6 million Jewish deaths that is usually referenced is for ALL the Jews killed by the Nazis not just Auschwitz. Jews were not just murdered in the extermination camps but were also murdered wholesale in the East by Einsatzgruppen. Whether the number is 5 million or 6 million is really immaterial, the fact remains that the Jews of Europe were were nearly eliminated by the Third Reich.

There was no proper record keeping, and the way that the bodies were disposed of makes it impossible to know the exact number for sure.

There was more than one death camp, and many people also died in concentration camps that were not 'death' camps in the sense of having organised means of mass extermination, but where nevertheless inmates were starved, tortured, and worked to death.

Most important, even one death was to many. Consider the fact that it was not only Jewish people, but the elderly, handicapped, those who spoke out against anything Hitler said or did, and those that tried to aid or rescue those being hunted by the Nazi's.

If you are doing research on this subject, you shouldn't need to be asking people on Yahoo Answers why the dead count varies so much - it should be amply clear to you that whenever there is a mass murder, and bodies are disposed of like trash, that record-keeping (both of individuals and of the disposal sites) is non-existant.
