The need for Germany to surrender with honour before an imminent invasion. This could not be done as long as Hitler was alive.

The war would have gone on longer if Hitler was dead, because Hitler was rapidly running the Reich into the ground. The 7/20 crew would have been much more adept at exploiting the differences between the USSR and the Anglo-Americans, so it was better that they failed.

pros is that at least someone stood up to hitler and had a reasonable chance to kill him and end the war, assuming the allies would agree to end it by 1944 which is doubtful they would agree to halt their march to Berlin.

the cons are that group, stauffenberg and his band were more concerned with self interest than any nobile goal. They knew the war had gone verh badly and worried what would happen to them when they lost and occupied. But they stood with hitler when he was doing good.

in the end, they were all shot, tortured, tried and other cruel brutal things. And everyone who knew him or even remotely connected with the plot
