I was asked this by a friend and I'm now curious myself. I'm sure it was a Volkswagen and I thought it was the Kubelwagen, but I'm not sure. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or if it was a different car?

~During his rise to power, his favorite was a 1933 Mercedes-Benz 200 convertible. His staff car was a Mercedes-Benz 770k. (It weighs 9,020 pounds and was donated to the Canadian War Museum in 1970). Only slightly heavier (more armor), the Mercedes 770k given to Finnish Marshall Gustav Mannerheim was sold at auction several times for record prices in the mistaken belief that it was Hitler's parade limo. Hitler also used the "Swabian Colossus" (a modified Mercedes 540) on occasion and it is rumored that 3 of them were built for him. Although they were heavily armored as well, they weighed in the 8 to 9,000 pound range. The Hamburg based Mirbach claims to have one now and is offering it for sale. Take your checkbook. It is expected to bring more than $1.5 million.

He always preferred Mercedes, although he did order the design and production of a "car for the people", the Volkswagon, believing that everyone should have the right to own an affordable automobile. He also had Ferdinand Porsche build the Auto Union D-Type to prove that German technology could win races.

It was a Volkswagen Beetle. A car that the Third Reich laid out the blueprints to mass produce it in the following years.

At least ONE of his cars was a HUGE MERCEDES LIMO.. that beast weighed something like 20 TONS and was fully armored. It was SOLD AT AUCTION by Barret Jackson a couple of years ago.
