There would have been a great many of his Greek contemporaries who would have disagreed with you. .. His mother may have been Greek, but his father was Macedonian. ... And Phillip was not very well liked by the Greeks.

Alexander the Great is known to be Greek, but really he was born in Macedonia (Macedon). Although Macedon is sometimes called a state in Northern Greece, the ancient Greeks considered the Macedonians Barbarians. Alexander was the son of Phillip II of Macedon, but when Alex was young his father was murdered. When Alexander later became King of Macedon, the first thing he did was have his father's killers executed. Alexander is best known for being a king of Macedon, uniting Greece, and conquering the Persian Empire. He died In Babylon, Persia, on June 23, 323 B.C.

I agree with you entirely.

Herodotus says the Mecedonians were Greeks, and Alexander I (king of Macedonia 498BC to 454 BC) had to prove his Greek ethnicity so as to compete in the Olympic Games, and as he did this to the satisfaction of the other Greek states,Macedonians and thus Alexander the Great were clearly Greek and accepted as such by other Greeks.
