I know this question is messy but I am looking for a book I heard of some years ago. I just remember it is for a young adults audience and talks about a fire who happened in a factory in NY ( I may be wrong on the place) and who killed many Irish girls who were immigrants. Can you help me find more information about this topic or tell me the book title? thanks!

There was the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in 1911. It's workforce was mostly women who were immigrants. The factory's doors were always locked so workers could not sneak out and the building was a firetrap. When the fire broke out, 146 people were killed. Many burned to death because they could not break down the doors and many jumped to their deaths in an effort to flee the fire, but there were no fire escapes.

It was one of the worst industrial disasters in American history.

It took place at 23-29 washington place on 25th march 1911 at about 4.40pm local time,,it is believed the fire started in a scrap bin under a cutter's table,it quickly spread and it was found that the owners had locked doors to the stairwells and exits, some people jumped to their deaths, there were stories of people holding hands and jumping from the 8th and 9th floors, altogether 146 people died,123 women and 23 men, there were also 71 people badly injured.the workers were jewish or italian, the fire prompted improved factory legislation,no doors or windows were to be locked during working hours, and better ventilation was bought in,but conditions remained harsh, the it took the growth of unions in the garment trade to really improve the workers conditions, strikes were a regular feature of the industry in the next few years, the owners were taken to court, but charges were dismissed, each family of a person who died got just $75 dollars.in the end the owners received a small fine. The site of the fire is now called the brown building and it is a national historic landmark of new york. There was a film made in 1979 called triangle factory fire scandal,it is on dvd at amazon, there is also a documentary called triangle, remember the fire, also to buy on dvd,and there is a book called the triangle fire,a brief history with documents,by jo ann argersinger, hope all that helps, there seems to be a lot on line about it!( found all the things to buy on amazon)

The fire is probably the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. I don't know what book specifically you're looking for but that should at least give you a term to start searching with.
