The domino effect was stated by President Eisenhower in regards to Communist spread if South Vietnam would fall.

The five nations he predicted would fall were Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Laos and Cambodia would fall, Thailand would be put at risk, Malaysia and Indonesia would be targeted, and Australia would be the final domino in the row that could fall. In fact, Laos and Cambodia did fall, but the ten to fifteen years the US stood firm allowed Thailand to get its act together to a point that it did not fall. That protected the rest of the projected domino's in that row.
