1) Bismark advocated a very strong, forminable German Military.

2) Bismarks policies were dsigned to secure the peace through strength. The German Empire was formed in 1889, Germany was a new empire surrounded by the older empires of Austria-Hungary, Russia, France, Britain, and even the Ottoman. His polices was to avoid threat by always aligning Germany with another powerfull ally. Since 1889 Germany had been a traditional ally of Britain. Through his polices he had managed to retain the balance of power through out Europe by playing the allies off one another.

When Bismark was removed by Emperor William II, the German Emperor did not have the tallent that Bismark had. He got involved in South Africa on the side of the Boers and broke the allaince with Britain, he built a fleet to challange the British navy which put Britain in alliance with France. Bismarks balance of power was boken, like gasoline thrown on the wood pile awaiting the spark.

1) Do you mean an advocate OF the military? I do not know if he was a military advocate at any time, he was famous for being a diplomat. He was not opposed to use of military force in the interests of the Prussian state. The Franco Prussian war was one of his most successful actions.

2) He was a Prussian nationalist. This is distinct from being a 'Pan-German' nationalist, - he saw his objectives as being the creation of a Prussian Empire within the German areas of Europe. He saw other German states such as Bavaria and Austria as rivals to be neutralised.

He had no interest in any extension of Empire outside Europe, and his main interest was to maintain Russia as an ally. He saw the politics of Europe as being decided by 5 'Great Powers', namely Britain, France, Austria, Germany, and Russia.

His objective was a balance of power, where at any time three of these would be in an alliance against the other two. He intended at all times that Prussia/Germany was in an alliance of three. His greatest fear was an alliance of the other four powers surrounding Prussia/Germany.

The spiked helmet develop into tailored by technique of the Prussians contained in the 1840s, earlier Germany's unification, from a type used by technique of Russian troops, whose victory over Napoleon had lent them tremendous status. "Pickle stabber" is the English slang for the German call. This style went out of use in WW a million in favor of the "coal shovel" style helmet nevertheless in use in WW 11.
