I like history very much and I just wondered about this question. History constantly repeats itself: powers rise and fall, then an other power does so. Look at the Greeks, e.g! What a sophisticated culture they had, how strong they were, and now there are only a few millions of them and nobody really cares about them in world politics. The same applies to the Roman Empire. Once both Latin and Greek used to be lingua francas, nowadays only very very few people speak it as a second language. Will the same happen to the English language as well in the course of time?

As you are a constant follower of history, you might have observed whenever there is a power shift, not only the power has shifted, the location has shifted from north to west and i think it will be shifting from west to east. The next super power will be one of the nations from Asian continent, either India or China and as far as language is concerned English will always be the internationally language from now on.

Writer Bruce Sterling said once "History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme." Patterns repeat, but not exactitudes. The most prominent difference bearing on your question is that there is now global communication on a VAST scale and the ability to go anywhere on the planet in a day or two. I picture a scenario no one else seems to even consider: the "new superpower" would be whatever coalition of nations decided to lay aside their own squabbles and throw in together, surround Saudi Arabia, and cut off the oil supply to America. If we don't stop deliberately antagonising the world this is not impossible.

I think if America falls, it's going to be our own fault: we have some fast growing up to do. The rest of the world's nations are older than us and their civilizations tempered by centuries of war. So many Europeans are so horrified because they know we've not had a real war (as in, on our soil) since the Civil War and so there is no "racial memory" of the anguish it causes--just a couple of generations of people grown up seeing war on television, distant, as though it were ESPN but with death and destruction. The youngest generations are being manipulated to think of it as not only necessary but vaguely entertaining. Maybe it will take such a disaster as WW3 for us to grow up. Unfortunately the other thing that's changed since the days of ancient empires: the weapons of mass destruction we have all over the world could destroy all life on it, and again, there are millions who think this event is "God's will" and thus just roll with it. Perhaps we are a suicidal species, and deep inside know we have gone too far and are being erased for developing such things as nuclear bombs and atmosphere-destroying products.

As for language: assuming there's no oil crash in the next 25 years or so, and that we can avoid World War 3 which begins to look hopeless when so many people think it's "destined" to occur because of some prophecy, I think we'd still be speaking English but a sort of global pidgin english with a lot of slang derived from languages across the earth. When we (And the Soviets and Europe, to be fair) threw out Hitler's party the German people didn't stop speaking German.

If the US falls then the UK can't be the next in power because they have always been followers of US policy and thus they will fall too. France could have been the one to take over, however, it does not take strong political positions. So, maybe the American feared nation of Iran!! However, I don't think the English language diminish that easily but I believe that Arabic will become so widespread.

That very plenty relies upon on who we vote into place of work. With the present time detrimental habit of the Republicans, there is no way that we are in a position to stay to tell the tale top. we are already far in the back of on Infrastructure whilst in comparison with something of the stepped forward worldwide and each now and then even third worldwide international places. We additionally ought to hold production back or all s misplaced consistently.

It has been speculated that it will be an alliance between China and the Middle East. Thats from Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State and a very smart man.

Powers rise and fall. They always have, they always will.
