Cause and effects of France’s war on Austria in 1792? cause and effects of Franco Prussian war of 1870?
what were the similarities and differences?
i think the 1792 france austria war started because of the declaration of pilnitz which threatened to intervene in order to protect french monarchy and the french took it seriously and prepared for war.
And in Franco prussian war was caused by the ems dispatch. Can someone give me more information?

You're basically correct.

1792 - the new Revolutionary government in France saw the concentration of Austrian troops near the French border as a threat, so declared war.

Franco-Prussian War: Bismark wanted war with France, but for reasons of international diplomacy and opinion needed France to start any such war.He therefore skilfully edited the Ems Dispatch to goad Napoleon III into a declaration of war. Napoleon III saw war with Prussia as inevitable sooner or later, and made a conscious decision to take the 'sooner' option.

When the French revolution overthrew King Louis XVI, many kings and emperors in Europe feared that the revolution would spread throughout Europe. Trying to stop this revolution, many European countries joined into a coalition - The War of the First Coalition.

To many European monarchs, Louis XVI of France was the legitimate ruler and government of France. In 1792, kings were seen as granted their power by god himself - 'Divine Right' of kings to rule. For ordinary people to overthrow the king was seen as spitting in the eye of god as well overthrowing a legitimate government.

The 1792 declaration of war against France was seen as 'maintaining the status quo' and the balance of power in Europe. Which meant not only protecting the thrones of other kings in Europe, but maintaining the control of the catholic church in France.

It was also about maintaining the 'balance of power' in Europe. Many countries feared that with the monarchy gone, France could and would align herself with many of her once enemies. Austria particularly - once an ally of France - now feared that the tables could be turned and that france could ally herself with Austria's enemies - which would put the increasingly unstable Austrian empire under threat.

But what particularly pissed the Austrians off was the execution of Marie Antoinette - the wife of King Louis XVI. Marie Antoinette was also the sister of the Austrian Emperor - the Holy Roman Emperor Francis II. The execution of the French Queen - once a Austrian empress, was unforgivable in Austrian eyes.
