D. W. Griffith made the first epic film of the history of the USA- it was released in 1915. The movie is full of technological film advancements for its time.

Unfortunately, the film exhibits full frontal racism and tries to promote white supremacy. My French husband watched it with me and he was astounded that the film is so full of racism.

It is a historical movie. We need to watch it to remind us that these sorts of things are so wrong and not to commit the wrong of racism again or to allow it to happen in this country.

Personally, I think everyone should see this movie because it is just such a horrendous comment on racism and that has no place in our society.

birth of a antion was the dramitazation of the middle book of a trilogy writeen by thomas dixon jr, a stout southern racist. the book tells the tale of the story of a southern confedrate officer who after the war started the ku klux klan to attempt to reddm southern values, while the actual crator of the Klan was Nathan Bedofrd Forrest, a Southern confederate calvary officer, this movie is nto a biography. teh story is told in two halves the first being pre WAR AND DURING THE WAR, THE SECOND HALF BEING AFTER. the story also presents the elements of carptet baggers and scalawags and thier attmpts to manipulate the south after the war, the climax of the movie is the saving of a southern family and the offscreen lynching of a 'suppossed' black rapist. the movie is very stylsitic and melodramatic in its presentations of its southern chivalric themes. DW Griffin, was the director of the movie and this film is considered to be in the top 100 films of all times by the American Film association. t he reason for this is the pioneering techinques Griffin used itn the film which today will probably seem tame by comparison, he was one of the first to use the pan shot ( moving the camera from side to side) and the use of a moving camera to provide realism to a chase scene. teh film is hotly debated as being the top grossing film of all tiem, even surpassing titanic. unfortunately records were nto kept at the time, however at the time of its realease in 1915 movie houses were charging the astronomical sum of $2 for premium seats and showings ( adjsuted for inflation taht would be @ $36 in current funds). the movie had runs in NYC and LA ( where it premiered) for over a year, selling out many shows and cuasing riots. the movie also established and cemented Metro Goldwyn Mayer as one of the premiere movie production companaies as Mayer contributed to it financially. There was also a directores award formt eh film guild society until the early 90s, named after grffin, however polticial correctness led to having grififns name removed from the reward based on his suppossed racism, which is a hotly debated topic. based primarily on his making of the movie and his having been born in the south. the movie is definatley worth viewing, im sure it can be found at any larger blockbuster or thru netflix

Birth of a Nation was a White supremacist propaganda movie - it was the film version of the racist novel "the Clansman" - which tried to justify the lynching of Black men in the South. Basically, the film claimed that Black men were all rapists, and that the KKK were the guardians of White womanhood.

In fact, the KKK were a racist terrorist group, founded by former Southern slaveowners. They wanted to repress freed Black slaves, and supress Black civil rights in the South.

The Klan carried out a campaign of lynching, castrations, torture, rape, arson and general mayhem against African Americans in the South.

Basically, D W Griffith was a terrorist sympathizer, who made a propaganda film on behalf of the al-Qaeda of his era.

Birth of a Nation is a racist propganda film.
