There are many kings and rulers who were known as "the great one", for example: Alexander the Great, Knut the Great, Charles the Great (Charlemagne).

But I started to think, that maybe there aren't that many after all. So I wanted to know how much approximately there are these "great ones". I mean like 10-30 or much more like 50-...

Alfred is the only king of the English I know of to be routinely called "the Great" (though sometimes it's applied to Elizabeth I, but only by certain biographies).

Going into ancient history you have the famous (Ramses the Great, for instance) and the not-so-famous (Tigleth Pileser the Great). The HRE had Frederick the Great (two actually, but one not so much). I've heard Roman/Byzantine emperor Constantine I referred to as the Great to distinguish him from later users of the name. Many more of course.
