I watched a movie a few days ago about Hobos and the Great Depression and in the movie it said while hobos were jungling they would make Hobo stew. Im writing an essay about Hobos and I need to know what they would use in it. I DON'T want a recipe so I can make i just want to know what they would put in it.

What we call Hobo Stew now is a hot dog and root veggie dish. In those days, it was whatever they got. A large boiling pot was kept going at hobo campgrounds. Watch the Grapes of Wrath movie, too.

I'm not sure if this is right, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Hobo Stew is basically a stew made of water and whatever scraps the people making it could find on the street. So it wouldn't exactly be the same every time. Say somebody found potatoes, and another person found a bit of chicken, and somebody else found some beans. That day's Hobo Stew would have potatoes, chicken, and beans. Like I said, I'm not sure if that's exactly right, but I think I remember it being that way.

They ate whatever was available to them, their meals varied everyday.
