the robber barrons!

the great industrial giants like Andrew Carnigie,

Or you could write about the "Johnstown Flood" where a whole town got wiped out because of the influence of very rich industrialists about a dam and a hunting lodge.

First of all, even if someone did give you a topic, you need to be enthusiastic about it in order to write a good essay.

So, to keep in with the slavery theme - you could possibly look at whether things between 1877 - 1900 had improved for the black ethnic minorities in America since the passing of the civil rights act of 1875/or the Ku Klux Klan Act in 1871 or not.

if you think alot of positive progress had been made, make sure you find lots of evidence to back up with what you say and the reasons for them.

if you do not think alot of progress had been made, state why and the causes.

To make this a good essay - i strongly suggest you visit the local library for good resources.

Next time, never put off writing an essay because this is exactly what happens! You end up with lack of time which could have been used for research! I'm sure you're a bright person - just don't give up so easily!

Good luck!

Persuade people that history as they know it doesnt exist. That every 50 years, the slate is wiped clean, new historical facts created. For example did you know this really the 71st Reality which began 28 years ago? Every 50 years the Government changes everything. Only a select few are allowed to remember the previous reality - they are the Council of 24 based in a facility called Crystal Palace in the Rocky Mountains. Everyone is exposed to a device which wipes their memories clean and replacing them with new manufactured memories.

Original events from the period 1877-1900 are as follows.

Pre-1877:

Electricity in wide use by 1840. Radio is invented in 1848, TV in 1851. Computers Developed in the late1850s. Air travel widespread by 1865. First satellite orbits the earth in 1875 launched by Germany.

1878 - The Confederate State of America rise again and consist of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky and Cuba.

1880 - 2nd Civil War ends after Confederacy develops an atomic bomb and destroys Washington DC gaining its independence gaining Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia as well.

1885 - After 5 years of peace the US under President Abraham Lincoln II develops the H-Bomb and destroys the Confederate capital of Richmond VA. Atlanta, Charleston and New Orleans using the new V-7 missile. Cuba is completely destroyed becoming a chain of 4 irradiated Islands as punishment for helping the CSA.

1888- World War 1 begins - Germany develops the H-Bomb and nukes all European capitals as well as New York City. The US responds with a secretly developed anti-matter bomb destroying 1/2 of Germany with one bomb. US then takes over 1/2 the world with Russia controlling the rest after they developed the anti-matter bomb at nearly the same time.

1888-1894 Technology explodes - US lands on the Moon first in 1890, Russia makes it to Mars a year later in 1891 bypassing the Moon. A war between US and Russia in space results in a limited nuclear war on Earth - setting back technology to pre-1877 levels. World War 3 lasts approximately 57 hours before a truce is called. All space colonies are destroyed and the space programs end. US/Russian empires break up, old nations are once again independent.

1895-1900 Reconstruction - technology is blamed for the devastating war of the 19th century and is largely abandoned. The world comes to resemble the one books in this reality says they were.

So thats your job - convince people this is true.

What about the women's crusade against strong drink, which started in America in the 1870s? Perhaps you could try and persuade people that it was a good idea for them to try and stop men drinking?

Or that was about the time that women in America started going to college? A lot of people disapproved of them going, but perhaps you could write an essay saying who you think women's education was a good thing? Or a bad thing, if you want to be really controversial?

It was also an era when there was a lot of immigration into America, a lot of people arrived in America during this period, mayb eyou could write about why immigration was a good thing (or not, depending on how you feel about it

Or you could write about the fight for women's suffrage that was going on during this era?

Or the expansion of the West? Many people were going west during this era in the hope of bettering themselves? maybe you could write about this? You could either write an essay in support of the settlers' point of view, or possibly of the Native Americans who were being displaced by this movement?

Write about the Alaskan Gold Rush era, and picture yourself as the wife of a man who ran off to discover gold, and how many women were left alone to tend to life themselves. You could argue the point of how wrong it was for these men to leave their families, to go in search of gold and not finding any. What a wasted life it was for the majority of gold seekers. Now alone and hungry in the colds of Alaska, with no way to get home.

You could write a persuasive essay about why you think something needed to happen and put what you think would have happened if it hadn't.

Ya know I really had to think what happened during those years. I think it was during the times when kings and queens and/or people was discovering new lands. Good luck with your essay. Don't give up now.
