Tutankhamun(1341 BC –1323 BC) was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (ruled c.1333 BC – 1323 BC ), during the period of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom. His original name, Tutankhaten, means "Living Image of Aten", while Tutankhamun means "Living Image of Amun". In hieroglyphs, the name Tutankhamun was typically written Amen-tut-ankh, because of a scribal custom that placed a divine name at the beginning of a phrase to show appropriate reverence. He is possibly also the Nibhurrereya of the Amarna letters, and likely the 18th dynasty king 'Rathotis' who, according to Manetho, an ancient historian, had reigned for nine years — a figure which conforms with Flavius Josephus's version of Manetho's Epitome. The 1922, discovery by Howard Carter and George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon of Tutankhamun's nearly intact tomb received worldwide press coverage. It sparked a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt, for which Tutankhamun's burial mask remains the popular symbol. Exhibits of artifacts from his tomb have toured the world. In February 2010, the results of DNA tests confirmed that Tutankhamun's Y-chromosome belongs to the R1b1a haplogroup. The tests also confirmed that he was the son of Akhenaten and his sister/wife , whose name is unknown but whose remains are positively identified as "The Younger Lady".

the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings (Egypt), which became famous for the wealth of treasure it contained. The tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter, underneath the remains of workmen's huts built during the Ramesside Period; this explains why it was spared from the worst of the tomb depredations of that time. The tomb was densely packed with items in great disarray. Carter was able to photograph garlands of flowers, which disintegrated when touched. Due to the state of the tomb, and to Carter's meticulous recording technique, the tomb took nearly a decade to empty, the contents all being transported to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.Tutankhamun's tomb had been entered at least twice, not long after he was buried and well before Carter's discovery. The outermost doors of the shrines enclosing the king's nested coffins were left opened, and unsealed. It is estimated that 60% of the jewellery which had been stored in the "Treasury" was removed as well.

Tutankhamun

approx. 1341 BC – 1323 BC)

Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (ruled c.1333 BC – 1323 BC)

Buried in Site# KV62 is the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings.

The Valley of the Kings is a valley in Egypt where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, tombs were constructed for the Pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties of Ancient Egypt).

Even though the tomb showed signs of two tomb robberies it still contained 1000's of objects, personal, ritual, royal, and a great amount of gold.

The sheer amount of gold and objects inside thew tomb --- and the fact that it was IN the Valley of the Kings --- it was immediately known that the tomb was in fact a royal tomb.

Well, the tomb actually SAID "Pharaoh of Egypt" too, dead give away.

Carter felt that there became a minimum of one greater undiscovered tomb interior the Valley of the Kings. With the help of his customer,Carter began a scientific excavation of the valley. close to a number of the biggest tombs and under some backfill Carter discovered stone steps carved into the bedrock. those carry approximately the front to the tomb
