Well I was one, and I later earned a PhD in the field.
You can major in anything and eventually get rich, depending on what you do with your life. I became an academic, and while I'm not "rich," I am financially comfortable. In fact, until I took semi-retirement, I made more money than my husband did.
Most people do not work in the field in which they majored, and there are graduate programs that don't require a specific major. A history major could go to law or even medical school, or earn an MBA, and make a lot of money that way. I know one who writes novels and has done quite well with them. I know another who teaches history on the high school level but made some smart investments back in the 1980s and really IS rich.
You could start a business or invent something and get rich that way. Being a history major does not confine you to history as a way to make a living, though I, personally, have found the field very fulfilling.
