May I just offer my own perspective on this issue?
Okay, I will try to answer in a calm, cool manner concerning this:
This case has a lot of similarities to the Rwandan Genocide. Both the Armenians and Turks committed horrible crimes against each other, and both have been engaged in an arms race concerning academic study of this event by shmoozing politicians, installing puppet scholars into major university systems and academic groups, etc.
And yet, careful reading of this event, at least to me, shows intent of genocide on the part of the Turks against the Armenians. Why? The photos taken by Armin Wegner, telegrams and documents produced by the German soldiers and Ottoman leadership (these appear to indicate a large sense of racism against the Armenians at the time), Mehmet Talaat Pasha's cynical reaction and answer given to a question asked by the Swedish ambassador (Sweden was neutral), and the widespread scale of deportations throughout the empire at the time (many Armenians in the western area were also deported/massacred, although the main focus was in the eastern part at the time). Also, the many eyewitnesses to the killings, along with Dr. Robert Jay Lifton's findings of medical records that show that many (if not most) of the top Turkish medical professionals at the time were being paid to poison Armenians on purpose. In addition, it has been found that the Kurds were being paid by the Ottoman political and military leadership at the time to attack and kill the Armenians.
Unfortunately, I feel that you may simply be wanting to rant, rather than to carefully read up on this subject. I hope this reading as a whole helps you understand why many feel it was a genocide.
