he was one hundred percent fake. i believe that there is some sort of disclaimer stating that the game is fictional before you get to the main menu. as far as i know, none of the people Altair kills are real. in real life, there are no strange metallic orbs that cause people to hallucinate, there are no people who can wipe out armed soldiers in hand to hand combat so effortlessly, and a pile of hay is not sufficient to break a fall from hundreds of feet. sorry to disappoint.

Well, In my opinion, the game is not great in terms of plot (a pretty bad way to finish off Desmond's story line), and a lot of the gameplay elements are not worth the time. However there are a lot of cool things that they added to the game such as ship battles. It looks good, but when you really get deep into it, it's not nearly as good as what was promissed (and Ubisoft konws that too). Don't get me wrong though, there are a lot of good things about this game You say that you haven't played since the first game, and I really have to say that you should not play this one until you have played AC2, ACB, and ACR. It's a continuos story, jumping in at AC3 is like ready the first few chapter of a book then jumping to the last few. If you play this game there is no doubt that you will be VERY confused. Get AC2 instead. That is my personal favorite (an I say this after playing all the games many times). The story is a lot more detailed, Ezio is a MUCH better developed character than Connor, the cities of AC2 (Florence, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano/Tuscany, Forli, and Venice) are much better than the cities in AC3 (only Boston, New York, and "The Wilderness" which feels like playing Skyrim). Plus you will not be confused with AC2 since it literally starts where AC1 left off.

Altair was not a real person and the entire plot of the game is indeed fake, however the people that Altair kills are based on real people that lived during the time the game is set in. It should be noted that the assassins that the game is based on were real. The hashshashin were a fanatical group of Muslims during the Middle Ages and they were indeed assassins. But the hashshashin did not target only Christians or Crusaders. The hashshashin also often accepted contracts from outsiders. It is often claimed that RIchard the Lionheart contracted the hashashshin to assassinate Conrad de Montferrat. The hashashshin eventually adopted a policy of Taqq'iya, which is a concept in the Islamic faith taht states that followers of Islam may conceal their faith if they are threatened or persecuted. Assuming that the hashshshin have survived into today, they would be awaiting their Imams to call upon them to awaken again.

I think he is fake. the pieces of eden are not real. who can fight a crusader without any weapons but the assassin's creed game is based on the stories of hashashins. hashashins were powerful the could do this things like countering an armed soldier without any weapons. I think Prufrock's answer is correct.

The game is self is based on the lives of Hashashins who lived in the castle as told in the game ...

However they weren't involved in the Crusades or survived until the 15th century their castle was stormed by the Duke of Cyprus ( im not sure of the title ).The Hashashins were basically a well trained army of spies and hit men for hire they could be hired by anyone they were usually used by the Arabic and Ottoman leaders to clear opposition they were named hashashins because they used to eat hash before killing their target
