Custer won great fame and promotion in valiant battles during the Civil War against Confederates. He often boasted that he was never wounded despite having many horses shot out from under him while leading charges. His brother was heavily decorated with two Congressional Medals of Honor - Tom Custer. Custer declared that he would never lose a battle to the Indians of the Old West.



But Custer's arrogance led to extreme views of white supremacy and commitment of atrocities. His soldiers of the US Calvary killed many women and children - most notably at the Washita River. Eventually, he was killed in return by Northern Cheyenne and Lakota warriors.



From the Native American view of religion, Custer's death was a punishment for his sins - a form of Divine Retribution. He had it coming.
